Movie Review: Here Comes The Boom

We all have a teacher we hate for so many reasons. We all also have a teacher we truly look up to. No matter what they do, they will always be a part of our lives as we are a part of theirs. We inspire each other in so many ways; more often in the simplest and unnoticeable ways.

That’s what Here Comes the Boom is all about: music, passion, determination, and inspiration.

If I were to rate this movie from one to ten and ten being the highest, I would rate it ten (10)! Really! Because upon watching that, I realized a lot of life lessons. You better watch it to learn it yourself.

Bloggers United V.

Last Saturday was the Bloggers United V. It was held in Function Room 3, SMX Convention Center from 10am to 9pm.

I was there as early as 9:45am so I could at least meet my favorite bloggers first. I thought that I was early enough to be first in line but this surprised me when I got to the second floor.

There were already a lot of people lined up, waiting for the ticket booth to open. Luckily, I won a free ticket from Flipsters through their Twitter account.

I didn’t need to line up because the organizers had a separate line for the guest list. It was like a fast lane. Hehe.

As soon as I got inside, I looked for Ava’s booth. I knew for sure that once all those people get inside, I wouldn’t have the chance to have a photo with her.

I hesistated to mention my name but wtf, it was my first time to be there and my first time to meet my favorite blogger. I had to stop my pag iinarte (haha). I introduced myself and she was very humble and sweet. I looked through her items and this particular bag caught my attention.

Too bad though ’cause I wanted to buy some of her shoes, but they just didn’t fit me. She wished me to enjoy the event which I find very friendly and sweet of her to say aside from the regular “thanks for visiting my booth.”

Next, I wanted to visit every booth from Ava’s, however, most of those people lined up outside made it through the door and this became the scenario.

It was hard looking through the booths especially if everyone’s going crazy with the clothes, shoes, and other items on display. There were a few clothes I wanted, placed back in the rack then when I had finally convinced myself to buy it, it’s gone! That really sucks. Kinda frustrating.

But honestly, that’s how I buy most of my items in the bazaars or thrift shops. I’m not the type of girl that when she sees something she likes, she’d automatically get it. What I do is, I give time to convince myself to buy them then come back. If they’re still there, it’s meant for me. If it’s no longer there, sorry nalang. That’s what I did with these items from Alyssa and Danica’s booth. I saw them, left them, came back after 15 minutes, they were still there so I finally bought them. Yey!

I particularly loved this sunnies I bought from Alyssa.

Sad though our pictures were blurred. Nevertheless, I will never forget how energetic they were in accomodating everyone who passes their booth even though they had helpers around. They were very approachable and cool. I’m glad I’ve met them.

I also went to Bea’s booth. I was able to find another blazer. I was very happy! Just so you know, I’ve been looking for blazers since I was in college and none seemed to fit perfectly. So glad the two blazers I got were just perfect! Due to the busy environment and because she was attending to other visitors too, I wasn’t able to have a picture with her. Sobs.

It was my first time to attend to Blogger United. It was my first time to meet my favorite bloggers. I enjoyed it even though I had to leave early. Next time, I’m hoping to stay longer and to have more than enough cash to go shopping. Mahehe.

Congratulations Bloggers United and to everyone who was part for the success of the event! Looking for another in the near future. Hihi.

Trash Talks.

Oh I have received a lot and admittedly, I have said a couple of trash talks too. But really, what does it do? Does it improve your life? Does it make you happy? Because if it does, then you’re one hell of a psycho.

Trash talking is defined as insulting or boastful speech intended to demoralize, intimidate or humiliate someone. I know, I know. It’s quite hard to NOT say anything that could eventually humiliate someone but can we stop with the excuses and just STOP. Really. JUST STOP.

Again, let me ask you. What does it do to you and to the other person? Does talking about his or her flaws make you perfect? Clearly, it does not. It just gives you stress, annoyance and self-degradation.

If you’re someone who is being talked about by a couple of people, I think this is what you should just do.

  1. Re-assess yourself and understand where their words are coming from. It is also important to check yourself first. We must check ourselves for the things we said, things we did and its corresponding reasons. If you assess that you have a fault for it too and that you can apologize to the other party, then apologize. If you still can’t because you believe you didn’t start it or so, then just let it go, move on and still apologize (when you’re ready).
  2. “If you don’t like what you see, then don’t look at it. Find a way that you won’t see it again.” This is a very common sense thing but most of us don’t often recognize. If they keep posting on their social medias all these words to insult or annoy you, they don’t look at it anymore. Delete them or block them on your accounts so you wouldn’t see whatever they post that could hurt or irritate you.
  3. Stop posting things about them. You gotta just stop. If they just won’t stop, let them, don’t copy them! Let them do all the trash talking. Let them be the one to look like they can’t get over it. Let them be the one to look like fools and bitches who doesn’t seem to have better things to do in life so they rather spend their precious time checking on you. Let them be.
  4. Remember that haters gonna hate. Hate could bring a lot of negativity in one’s life. It could cost you a lot too. So if they hate you, don’t bother hating them too. I’m not saying you should love them, but you know, just ignore them. As the quote goes… “Do not let negative people stop you from living.” Don’t live your life hating them. Just live your own life and stop minding how they live theirs.
  5. Control and maintain. I know it’s a hard thing to do especially if they just REALLY won’t stop but try your best to just control yourself and maintain what you have done from this list. The best way is to keep yourself calm, inhale and exhale for a couple of minutes, close your eyes and tell yourself… “I’m a better person. I won’t let them ruin my day.” Keep telling yourself that until you finally convinced yourself you’re ready to open your eyes. Then… go back to whatever you’re doing and continue living your life.
These, for me, are the 5 basic things we must do when dealing with the trash talks and the trash talkers. Sometimes, it’s really best to just let them do what they do. Because in the end, the person or the people who can’t seem to tame their mouths are the same ones who look cheaper and uneducated individuals.

A Simple Tip.

Few weeks ago, we were advised that there will be a job fair today in school and that our classes will be cancelled to give way for this event. All of the Filipino graduating students in our school were expected to go to the job fair. They warned us that if we don’t go, our clearances won’t be cleared. We have no choice though some of us didn’t really have to attend the said event since they already have other referrals or means to get a job.

Anyway, so when we were there, we were surprised to see many companies. I mean, we understand that it was a job fair but we weren’t advised of the number of companies that will be appearing for the event and as a result, most of us weren’t prepared with enough resume copies.

As a simple preparation to the job fair, while I was updating my former resume from my ojt, and while I was scrolling through my Facebook account, I had an idea and this was it:

For some reason, I had the guts to submit this kind of copy to the companies today. Same time too, I was also kinda worried because some companies may not be impressed with it. I fear that some of them might actually look at this as childish or something like that. But gladly, I heard good feedback.

When I was passing the copy of my resume with the above design in front, the company representatives were attracted to looking, scanning and actually studying my resume. I take it as a good thing. At least, I got their attention. That way, through my observation, compared to the other resumes submitted by the other applicants, my resume was given that much attention. I see them reading from the front page to the last. Some of them gave compliments to the effort I made with my resume, and some, well, I don’t know what they think, they just smiled after. What matters to me is that, I got their attention and interest to read through my resume.

Being a-soon-to-be-fresh-grad, there’s not much to see in the resume, unless of course if you’re those kind of students that are very active with competitions and other school events; or if you’re that kind who is so smart that a two blank page of 8.5 x 11 bond paper, single spaced  won’t be enough to list down all the achievements you’ve done. But if you’re just like me, who only have a few things to put, try doing something different; like what I did.

The main reason of doing that Facebook design resume was because I was just bored to death. I just tried replicating the Facebook webpage design. However, while I was designing it, I realize that it was actually a good idea to stand out and to showcase what I’m good at.

So here’s a little tip from me: If you don’t have much things or experience written in your resume, I suggest you think of something that can showcase your skill or talent or whatever you’re good at doing. As for me, since I’m into graphic designing and internet marketing, that design was a simple representation for my interest. If you’re an AB Communication student, why not take a video of yourself doing your thing and save it in a cd then submit it with your resume. Yeah I know, too much to do right? But isn’t it the point? The more effort you invest, the more possibilities of getting hired. I said this because I believe that a simple written resume isn’t enough to show those potential companies what you’re good at so do something extraordinary than just a boring 3-page CV.

I’m serious! Do it! Some companies might overlook your skills. Reading through those words, sentences and phrases may not be enough to show them “Hey, hire me!”. They might even look at it as an ordinary thing people put in those lines but if you try something different, they will be curious of you. And in order for that curiosity to not go to waste, create the best thing you can do to show them who you are, what you do and what they should do (and that is to hire you!).

I don’t know if I made my message clear but yeah… I know it’s kinda hard to think of ideas or make those extraordinary things, so just give yourself some time to realize it. See, I wasn’t even thinking about it, but the idea (facebook design) just came and it was effective. Just watch out for those little signs, so you won’t get caught up.

If in case you want a little help with ideas for your own application, email me (richellelouisebanta@gmail.com) or comment below. I’m more than willing to help you conceptualize. 🙂

Bazaar Finds.

Today, I went to the school to do some shoot when I walked pass the bazaar area. I forgot it was our Lasallian week.

As I was walking, this caught my eye…

So I approached the stall and wow, I just fell in love with the products. I’m really fond of crafts of native products or vintage things. I found out that these items were made out of water hyacinth. Then I remembered, I still owe a post about Jacinto and Lirio.
Anyway, these items were made by Tanza Water Hyacinth Weavers and Gatherers Association with Mr. Manuel Mintu as their president. I was kinda in a hurry so I wasn’t able to really talk with the person in charge. I wasn’t able to ask questions but I’m hoping I could someday be able to have a chitchat with them like the one I did back in Muni Pop Shop.
Honestly, I didn’t have any plans of buying any item in the bazaar but I really fell in love with one of the bags. And I started to use it today already… planning to use it again tomorrow. I bought it for P230. I didn’t haggle the price not because I’m rich or that I have a lot of money on hand. But because I find these kind of products hard to produce therefore making money worth it.

Sometimes, we also have to consider this kind of things when buying. We oftentimes buy bags from malls that are priced higher than P230 and we buy it because of either the style or the brand. Have you asked yourself… is this really worth my money? Does the price justify the product? ‘Cause when I saw and bought my bag from this stall, I really believe my money’s worth it compared to those other expensive bags.
Moving on… upon walking towards where I’m headed too, I found another stall that got in interested. The colorful, mini flowers/roses caught my attention. I thought it was some sweets but those flowers were candles!
Forest Candles was the one behind the stall. And yes those are candles! They are cute, aren’t they? I bought these candles. I may not have received any real rose today but these candle roses truly made my day. ♥

I bought the set of red roses for P35 and these cute pink ones for P20 each.

I wanna retype the leaflet they gave me for you to understand more what Forest Candles is about and what are their other services. I hope you can spare some more time to read it here.

These two company really got me interested. They are not only providing these wonderful products but also, they provide jobs for our fellowmen. This is the main reason why, if given a chance, I would like to help them promote their products. I want to help them with their marketing for free. ^_^

Now Reading……..

Recently, I have received questions about the books I read. It’s only last year I started reading again; full time. I stopped reading when I reached high school probably because of peers and gmicks here and there. Reading becomes an old-fashioned thing to do when one enters high school. You’ll either be teased as a nerd or boring person. And like all other teens, I wanted to belong in a group who wouldn’t teased as such.

Back in grade school, I have a classmate/best friend/reading buddy, her name is Kim Umali. We used to spend our time in the library. Our school usually allot time for students to have their library periods. Kim and I usually go to the fiction section. I remember us going gaga over the Pony Pals. We even met another person, a transferee, and Indonesia named Marta. We call her Ame.

The three of us spend our bonding times reading in the library and when some of teh books of Pony Pals ain’t available, we’ll hit the encyclopedia racks or those science books to read and study. But high school came and as I said above, I stopped reading then.

As I grew up, even though I stopped reading, I never stopped visiting bookstores and buying books. When I noticed books are taking up all my shelves, I started to read again… one by one. It took me a while to get back to reading. I stopped for a long time and it felt like I’m learning how to read again. I read slow, unlike before. I had to read between the lines. But when I finally had the hang of it, I started to read fast again. And now, I can finish a novel for a day or two.
Looking at my Goodreads account and continuously receiving questions about what good book to read or recommend to them, I thought of blogging about the books I’m reading or have read. I hope I won’t be a spoiler for this. *giggles*
I hope my book review blogging would eventually help and answer those who are looking for a good book to read.

CARONIA: I LOVE MY MANICURISTA

As I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed earlier this morning, I saw this poster by Caronia Philippines.

I only go to a nail salon once in a month because I usually do my nails. I buy my own set of tools and honestly, I do use Caronia. I really love their colors! The only time I have a manicurista do my nails is when I’m back in my Dad’s province, in Bauan Batangas.
In my dad’s barangay, there’s this lady who is known as the Manicurista in their area, her name is Mary Anne. We call her Me-Ann. She uses Caronia products as well. If only Batangas wasn’t that too far, I’d set up a photo shoot as she beautify my grossly toe and finger nails, and I would love her to win this. Not just for the prize but also for the recognition that she’s, so far, the most careful Manicurista I’ve ever met. She makes sure my nails are done properly the way I want it to look. She makes sure I don’t feel any pain as she trims and cleans them. She makes sure I choose the color that suits my skin tone or the trend. And most of all, she makes sure I don’t get any sore or cuts after.
I think it’s just right to give something back to our Manicuristas. Hey, their job isn’t as easy as we see it. Imagine them sitting in a low position, cleaning, trimming and beautifying our nails the whole day. Imagine the back pain. Imagine the palsied hands when they reach their homes. Entering this competition would definitely make your manicurista happy. Just the way she/he makes us happy with our nails after their service.
Mechanics are included in the above poster. Go on and contact your Manicurista and make her/him a star! 😉

2013 BDJ Checklist

I’ve always loved seeing BDJ’s checklist which is seen few pages after the first page of their planners. I love the ideas they write in there, though it will only be this year that I’m determined to complete them all. But the thing is, some of it, well, I don’t think I’ll ever accomplish; things like… “get married”.

I’ve started doing the 54th challenge from the list.
I started listing the books I’m interested at and some books recommended by friends as well. Some of the books listed were from my friends’ feed in Goodreads.

I’ve already started reading some of them and as you can see from the photo above, I’ve already finished three. For this challenge, you may check my Goodreads account. You can also check my Reading Challenge status on my sidebar found at the right of this blog.
Reading for some might be a boring thing to do. But to me, it has become my best bud.
